Haridwar
Hardwar town is the gateway to the abode of Gods. The mythological and religious importance of Hardwar is well known. The 'Kumbh' and the 'Ardh Kumbh' fairs are held periodically, every twelveth and sixth year in Hardwar, when a large number of pilgrims and devotees converge to commemorate this divine event. Hardwar stands as the gateway to the four pilgrimages of Uttaranchal. Geographically and geological, Hardwar, lying at the feet of Shiva's hills, i.e., Shivaliks, in the Hardwar district of Uttaranchal Pradesh, is a doorway.
Haridwar stands at a distance of about 200 km from New Delhi, the capital of India. It is also very well linked by the road and rail network from all parts of India. Although, Haridwar can be visited at any point of time in a year, but it is advised that you avoid going there in the Hindu month of Sawan that comes in July every year. This is because at this point of time in the year you will encounter heavy rainfall.
